I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord. - Psalm 122:1 KJV

Single Entry

The Ten Virgins

November 29, 2016

We are living in a time when there is a need for all to give close attention to what the truth is, and how we should live in response to it. Jesus is the center of everything the Christian believes and does, consequently there needs to be priority given to what He says. Therefore, let us investigate what He says about those who will enter the Kingdom as follows:
Matt. 25:1-13 – “Then the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. 2 Now five of them were wise, and five were foolish. 3 Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them, 4 but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. 5 But while the bridegroom was delayed, they all slumbered and slept. 6 “And at midnight a cry was heard: ‘Behold, the bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him!’ 7 Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. 8 And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ 9 But the wise answered, saying, ‘No, lest there should not be enough for us and you; but go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.’ 10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding; and the door was shut. 11 “Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open to us!’ 12 But he answered and said, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, I do not know you.’ 13 “Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming” NKJV.
Just because one happens to be attending church does not mean that the individual is walking with the Lord as he/she should. Jesus is telling us that there needs to be an emphasis on getting hold of the Truth, and walking in it. The five “Foolish Virgins” were no hypocrites (COL, 408), however walking with Jesus is more than professing faith in Him. Here is what the Bible says,
2Tim. 2:15 – “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” KJV.
Ps. 119:105 – “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” ESV.
1Pt.1:23 – “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever” KJV.
Jesus wants us to focus on Him. The only way for that to happen is through the Holy Spirit, which is represented by the “oil” in the lamp. Here’s one of the things Jesus points to was a problem with past religious leaders (of His day).
Jn.5:39,40 – “You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. 40 But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life” NKJV.
Whether you are in church or not, I would like to encourage you to fix your gaze on Jesus. He is the only One who can lead us into the Kingdom. So, I close with this thought:
Jn. 14:5,6 – “Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? 6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” KJV.
